Lack of physical activity is global problem, being at the heart of many health issues. Of course, one can go for a jog. However, for some this is too "time-consuming" or requires too much willpower. An alternative is to find opportunities for more activity in daily life. Intervator is a "parasitic" elevator control panel placed on top of the existing panel. When people press the button of their destination floor on Intervator, it actually operates the button of one floor below. Now, either use the stairs for the last floor or cheat the system.

It is without doubt that an appropriate level of physical activity is positive for one's health and psychological well-being. The World Health Organization (WHO) lists lack of physical activity as the fourth leading risk for mortality. An estimated 3.2 million people die each year because of physical inactivity. To counteract this, the WHO issued a list of recommendations of how to promote physical activity in daily life. Intervator suggest the simple routine of using the stairs instead of the elevator.
